The President, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Najeem Yasin, on Monday regretted the ban on the union’s activities in Oyo State.
Yasin said the union would appeal to the state Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, to take a second look at the proscription order.
Makinde had last week Friday proscribed the activities of NURTW in the state following alleged
security breaches and violence unleashed in some motor parks by rival union members.
Yasin said the National Executive Council of the union would meet with Makinde.
The plan is contained in a statement Yasin issued from Saudi Arabia, where he is observing Umrah (lesser hajj), to mark the end of this year’s Ramadan.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Police Command on Monday paraded 26 members of the National Union of Road
Transport Workers arrested in connection with the last week’s violence in some motor parks in Ibadan.
The Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, stated this while parading the members alongside 26 other suspected criminals. Olukolu stated that 15 of the proscribed union members were arrested after failed attempts to violently disturb public peace at Idiarere, Beere, Orita Aperin, Iwo road and Eruwa motor parks.
