“They Want to Use Govt Power to Take My Ancestral Land” – Elegbedi of Egbedi Cries Out

In an exclusive interview with The Mogjournals, His Royal Majesty, Oba Muideen Olaniyi Azeez, the Elegbedi of Egbedi Kingdom, made a passionate call for help from Nigerians, alleging that his community is under siege by powerful forces attempting to seize their ancestral land.

Speaking with deep emotion, Oba Elegbedi narrated how his birthday ceremony on February 26th, 2025, turned into chaos when after leaving Ede High Court on a trump up charge involving him and his subject before an arranged Judge sitting in Ede, with the sole aim of sending him to prison, hoodlums, allegedly led by Ori Ade, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Governor Ademola Adeleke, stormed Egbedi. Ori Ade, who is also the leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Osun State, reportedly led the attack over a long-standing land dispute between Egbedi Kingdom and the Timi of Ede.

“They Attacked My Chiefs, Stormed My Palace with Guns”

Describing the terrifying incident, the monarch said:

“They came in government buses, armed with weapons, and caused serious tension in my community. My chiefs, including Ajiroba and Aremo, were attacked with machetes. These hooligans did not stop there—they stormed my palace, shooting sporadically at my people, creating fear and chaos.”

When asked about the root of the dispute, Oba Elegbedi revealed that the conflict revolves around a piece of land historically belonging to Egbedi Kingdom. The matter is already in court, and a court order has been issued restricting both parties from making any moves until judgment is delivered.

“Timi of Ede Wants to Forcefully Take Our Land with Government Backing”

“The Timi of Ede, with the backing of Governor Adeleke’s administration, is trying to forcefully take over this land that rightfully belongs to Egbedi Kingdom. Despite the court’s clear ruling that both parties should stay away until the case is concluded, they ignored the order and came with government officials, causing mayhem in my kingdom.”

The king expressed his pain and disappointment, stating that history must not be erased.

“Let me remind Nigerians and the good people of Osun State—Egbedi is the original landlord of Ede. It was my ancestors who hosted Timi Agbale to settle in Ede. Now, they want to use the power of the state government to take what belongs to us. This is injustice!”

A Call for Urgent Intervention

Oba Elegbedi is now calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria, traditional rulers, and all well-meaning Nigerians to intervene before the situation escalates further.

“I am crying out for help. This is an attempt to use government influence to rob us of our ancestral land. The people of Egbedi should not suffer this injustice. I urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and all traditional rulers to intervene immediately!”

As tensions remain high in Egbedi, the question now is—will justice prevail, or will political power overshadow the rule of law? Nigerians are watching.
