Senator Suraj Ajibola Basiru (SRJ) Emergence As The National Secretary of APC: This Cap Fits You Well

By Prof. Siyan Oyeweso

With a sense of joy and pride, I congratulate you my dear brother on your well-deserved appointment as the National Secretary of our great Party, the All Progressives Congress.

The appointment is not just a reward for your staunch dedication and commitment to democratic ideals of the party, it is also a recognition of your competence and good leadership qualities.

Over the years, you have distinguished yourself as a man of courage, can-do spirit, and immense capacity to succeed against all odds. These qualities were manifested in your sterling performance as a two-term Commissioner in Osun State and as a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing the good people of Osun Central Senatorial District.

It is on good record that as a first-timer in the hallowed Chamber, you made phenomenal contributions as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora, Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Societies. You also served with honour and distinction as a member of various Senate Committees including Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters; Air Force; Downstream Petroleum Sector and Petroleum Resources; among others.

You also meritoriously served as the Chairman of the 9th Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, a position which placed you as the official Spokesperson of the 9th Nigerian Senate. Similarly, you also have been a consistent and core progressive since the days of the Alliance for Democracy.

Finally, as we rejoice with you on your emergence as the National Secretary of APC, we urge you to use your offices to reposition and strengthen the party in Osun State. Let me also use this medium to encourage you to continue to toe the path of courage, integrity, passion, loyalty to public good and good governance that you are reputed for.

I am confident that you will make significant contributions to APC’s success today and at all times. Congratulations, once again, and best of luck in your new position.
