
The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Bamidele Salam, has distributed food items and cash support to residents of Osun State ahead of the 2026 Ramadan fasting period.
The distribution exercise commenced on Tuesday at country home in Ede, where relief materials were also presented to disaster victims in the constituency through collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Addressing Journalists, Chairman of the 2026 Bamidele Salam Ramadan Welfare Package, Dr. Musbaudeen Olatunde Idris, disclosed that more than 10,000 beneficiaries were selected across the four local governments in the federal constituency. He noted that the intervention is part of the lawmaker’s yearly humanitarian support for residents.
Idris explained that the distribution covered vulnerable groups, including worshippers across 120 mosques, pensioners, orphanage homes, selected organisations and students of tertiary institutions.
He added that food items such as rice, garri, spaghetti and vegetable oil were provided to ease feeding during the fasting period.
The chairman stated that the initiative was designed to support Muslims observing Ramadan and to encourage acts of charity and social support within the society. Idris also urged residents to promote peace, unity and humanitarian services during and after the fasting period.
Speaking at the event, Senior Legislative Aide to the lawmaker, Akintayo Jimoh, said the annual welfare programme was organised to support constituents, particularly vulnerable residents, during the Ramadan season.
He noted that various Islamic organisations, student bodies, pensioners and community groups benefited from the distribution.
Jimoh revealed that cash assistance worth N5 million was also provided for vulnerable residents, including persons living with disabilities and pensioners, to help cushion economic challenges during the fasting period.
He emphasised the importance of providing food support to residents facing hardship.He also urged beneficiaries receiving items on behalf of groups and organisations to ensure transparency and fairness in distributing the relief materials to intended recipients.
Commenting on the relief items provided for disaster victims, Assistant Head of Operations, NEMA Ibadan Office, Olanrewaju Kazeem, commended the collaboration between the agency and the lawmaker in addressing the needs of affected residents.
Kazeem noted that the intervention followed formal requests and consistent follow-up by Rep Bamidele Salaam which facilitated the release of the relief materials. He added that the initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen grassroots disaster response and management.
He called on public office holders to prioritise disaster risk reduction measures and community awareness, stressing that proactive engagement with residents can help minimise the impact of emergencies.
