A political advocacy group, the Osun West Majiyagbe Ambassadors (TOWMA), has called on the national and state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the 2026 gubernatorial ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.
In a press statement signed by the Acting Coordinator of TOWMA, Afeez Olalekan Ismail, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Iwo, the group urged President Bola Tinubu, party leaders, and other key stakeholders to end the marginalization of Osun West since 1999.
TOWMA emphasized that despite their district’s consistent loyalty to the APC, it has been persistently sidelined in the state’s political affairs, particularly in the allocation of governorship candidacies.
The group passionately appealed to APC decision-makers to embrace justice and fairness by giving Osun West a chance to produce the next governor of the state.
A touching moment of the address was the tribute paid to Hon. Remi Abass, a murdered local government chairman, described as a martyr for the West’s political cause.
According to the group, Hon. Abass’s sacrifice should not go in vain, as he represented the ideals of justice, inclusion, and fair political representation.
“We stand united in recognizing the sacrifice of one of Osun West’s illustrious leaders, Hon Remi Abass, the reinstated chairman of Irewole Local Government, who was brutally murdered in a scheme to weaken the West aspiration. His death remains a tragic testament to the struggle for equity and justice. His life was dedicated to advocating for fairness, and in honour of his legacy, we urge APC stakeholders not to let his death be in vain. His unwavering commitment must inspire meaningful action by ensuring that the APC candidate emerges from Osun West, signalling a powerful stance against past injustices.”
They argued that a candidate from Osun West would stand the best chance to return the APC to power in 2026 and reclaim the state from what they described as “PDP’s maladministration.”
TOWMA highlighted the district’s strong voter base and pointed to the 2022 elections, where Osun West delivered six out of ten local governments to the APC, despite not having a candidate from their zone.
They called this a defining moment, not just for Osun West, but for the APC itself to reaffirm its democratic values and reward loyalty.
“Our plea is heartfelt and sincere, driven by an unwavering belief in a brighter, more inclusive future for Osun State. It is within our grasp, and this dream can become a reality with your support. We trust that the leadership of APC will rise to the occasion, making decisions that reflect the true spirit of democracy and the hopes of countless citizens yearning for equitable representation and the return of the APC to Bola Ige House, Abere, in 2026.”
