A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilesa, Osun State, in a clear demonstration of retribution, ordered Rhoda Adu to pay N150,000 to her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after she failed to keep her side of the bargain, thereby causing emotional distress.
According to the report, Rhoda opted to switch off her phone and did not show up as agreed after Sola transferred ₦3,000 for transportation.
Irked and distressed by Rhoda’s actions, Sola reported the incident to the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Rhoda’s arrest and court appearance.
During the trial, Sola presented evidence, including the mobile money transfer and WhatsApp messages between him and Rhoda.
Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled that Rhoda must repay the ₦3,000 transport fare, along with ₦100,000 for breach of agreement and an additional ₦50,000 for emotional distress.
The court emphasized that the ruling was meant to serve as a deterrent to similar behaviour in the future.
The gist gained ground online, sparking widespread reactions, with many people sharing their thoughts in the comments section.
