The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Adeniyi Salawu Mustapha, has expressed confidence in defeating all candidates on the ballot in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Adeniyi stated this on Monday during the party’s primary election held in Osogbo, where he emerged as the SDP flagbearer for the August 8, 2026 governorship poll.
He said his emergence was divinely ordained and that nothing could change what God had already destined.
Adeniyi added that his administration, if elected, would focus on education, agriculture, economic empowerment, and other critical sectors, noting that Osun State has vast untapped potential.
He said his confidence was rooted in faith, describing the forthcoming election as a David and Goliath contest, and expressed optimism that the SDP would defeat all candidates on the ballot.
The SDP candidate also urged party members and residents of Osun State to remain calm and peaceful, stressing that the party would run a non-violent and issue-based campaign.
He said the party had put strategies in place and was actively working on voter registration and mobilization to ensure its members were duly registered ahead of the election.
According to him, “We are going to defeat all candidates that we see on the ballot paper because God is our backer, just as God was behind David to defeat Goliath. My advice to my party members and the citizens of Osun is to be calm. Our party is not troublesome or worrisome; we are gentle and calm, and our calmness and gentility will win the election. There should not be any rancour, obscene language, or abusive language. Our strategies are intact, and we will deliver.”
Speaking separately, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the Osun SDP gubernatorial primary, Dr. Segun Oyebolu, said the party was prepared to actively campaign across the state ahead of the election.
Oyebolu stated that the SDP would engage residents across Osun State to present its development plans, with emphasis on infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
He said the party aimed to build on past developmental efforts in the state by focusing on child development, access to quality healthcare, and improved living conditions for residents.
Oyebolu said, “For our party, we are going to restart what the late Governor Isiaka Adeleke Serubawon was doing in terms of the development of infrastructure across the entire state, focusing on our children so that they can compete globally, and providing good healthcare for our citizens in Osun State to ensure that when they are sick, they can go to the doctor without waiting for money because the government will sponsor their treatment. We are social democrats; we want to see everybody live a comfortable life.”
The primary election was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, represented by Okeranti Samson and Abajesude M.A.
