The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has reacted to rumors surrounding the payment of its ad-hoc staff, confirming that over 1,000 personnel have already received their stipends.

In a statement released on Tuesday via its official Facebook page, the commission assured the public that payments to eligible ad-hoc staff began last month and are still ongoing.

According to OSSIEC, all Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) were paid in full last month without any hitch, and payments to Presiding Officers (POs) and Polling Clerks (PCs) commenced two weeks ago.

The commission revealed that the process has been gradual due to the volume of staff involved , approximately 4,000, and the daily transfer limits imposed by the banking system.

Despite these constraints, OSSIEC affirmed that they have made significant progress, with more than 1,000 staff members successfully receiving their payments so far.

The statement noted that many of the paid staff have confirmed receipt of their funds in their respective group chats, where they’ve shared positive feedback.

OSSIEC described recent claims that it has failed to pay ad-hoc staff for the February 22 local government elections in the state as “baseless and misleading,” emphasizing that the payment process is ongoing and transparent.

The management condemned attempts to blackmail or tarnish the image of the commission with false information, urging the public to disregard such narratives.

“we are committed to ensuring that all eligible staff receive their payments” the statement added.

OSSIEC reiterated its dedication to fulfilling all financial obligations despite operational challenges, reassuring the public of its integrity.
