The Organizing Committee has unveiled the programs for the 39th Akoraye Day Celebration in Osun State.
In a press conference addressed by Dr. Adesoji Obayomi, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, on Friday, he stated that the historic event will bring together Akoraye sons and daughters from all walks of life to celebrate their commitment to unity, progress, and cultural heritage.
According to Dr. Obayomi, the funds generated from the Akoraye Day Celebration have been used to execute numerous infrastructural facilities, including an ultramodern palace, a modern police station, and a customary court, among others.
He said; “To put it in the right perspective, Akoraye Day Celebration started as far back as 1977, when Modakeke Community leaders took an initiative of raising funds for self-help community development projects to complement government’s effort in providing necessary facilities required by the citizenry, but it didn’t take up the tag of “Modakeke Akoraye Day” until 1984. Although, the laudable aims and objectives were initially misconstrued by external forces, yet we are glad that almost every community has finally embraced the Akoraye Day Celebration’s idea for her developmental purposes.
“In 1980, the celebration was violently disrupted by some disgruntled elements as a result of political whims, the disturbance however couldn’t dampen the morale of Modakeke, but rather rekindled the awareness of our sons and daughters, at home and abroad to pursue the objectives with more determination and commitment.
“Through funds realized from the Akoraye Day Celebration, we have been able to execute numerous necessary infrastructural facilities, a few of which I will highlight:
Modakeke High School, Ultramodern Palace, A Modern Police Station, A Post-Office with a befitting Postmaster’s Accommodation Olorunsogo Daily and Periodic Market, A Customary Court, Modakeke Community Grammar School, An Ultramodern Town Hall, Ogunsua Grammar School, Orisunmibare Planks Market, Olorunsogo Motor Park, PHCN Control Room, Modakeke Civic Centre, Magistrate Court of Justice, High Court of Justice, and Ogunsua Radio 97.7FM, among others.
“Each of these projects have been guarded with the same principles of accountability and transparency that guides Modakeke Community leaders.”
