The National Youth Service Corps Osun State has officially disengaged 2,417 Corps Members of the 2024 Batch A Stream 2 after completing their mandatory one-year national service.
The low key passing-out exercise, which took place today across various local government areas in the State, marked the successful completion of their service to the nation.
The event was presided over by the State Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Ndoma Obim, alongside senior NYSC officials, including the Director SWAO1, Mrs Olubukola Abiodun, Mr. Tota George, Deputy Director SWAO1, who supervised the process; and Mrs. Caroline Adenle, Assistant Director, PRS. Their presence ensured a seamless and well organised certificate distribution process.
In his address, Mr. Agbor commended the outgoing Corps Members for their resilience, commitment, and contributions to their host communities.
He emphasised the NYSC’s vital role in fostering national unity and urged them to uphold the values of discipline, patriotism, and selflessness beyond their service year.
Addressing the common question, “After NYSC, what next?” he encouraged the Corps Members not to be discouraged but to remain focused, hardworking, disciplined, and honest, noting that these are key ingredients for success.
He also provided updates on the Batch’s overall performance, stating that while 2,417 Corps Members completed their service successfully, 44 were given extensions due to various infractions as stipulated in the NYSC Bye-laws, and 54 were reported to have absconded.
On the much-anticipated ₦77,000 allowance, Mr. Agbor assured the Corps Members that disbursement would commence soon, just as other batches have received theirs. He urged them to reflect on their service year with gratitude, acknowledging the support of their parents and guardians, whose sacrifices contributed significantly to their success.
Speaking on post-NYSC opportunities, the State Coordinator highlighted the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and encouraged the Corps Members to build on the skills they acquired during their service year. He advised those who have the means to consider furthering their education through a master’s degree, while urging others to stay productive and avoid idleness.
“Starting small is not a setback but a stepping stone to greater success,” Mr. Agbor emphasised, urging them to stay determined and persistent in their pursuits.
As the Corps Members prepare to return home, Mr. Agbor strongly advised them to prioritise their safety. He cautioned against traveling late at night. He further advised that if night falls during their journey, they should break their trip and continue the next day, prioritising their safety at all times.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Agbor reaffirmed NYSC’s commitment to supporting the outgoing Corps Members beyond their service year. He encouraged them to be ambassadors of unity, service, and development, carrying forward the spirit of nation-building wherever they go.
