Netizens Drag Singer Ayra Starr For Disrespecting King Sunny Ade

AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE

Popular Nigerian artiste, Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr, has come under the heat for disrespecting Juju music icon and maestro, King Sunny Ade.

In a viral video shared on social media, the 21-year-old singer was seen shaking the 77-year-old while standing; a scene that didn’t go down well with most social media users as they slammed the young artiste for being disrespectful.

In the video, Starr had previously bent to hug Bose Ogulu, mother to Grammy Award winner Burna Boy, before proceeding to where KSA sat with some other guests.

Starr’s action has, however, seen her slammed by users of the social media microblogging site, X.

Being a Yoruba girl, Aderibigbe was said to have portrayed the act of disrespect and insult as they condemned the greeting between the elderly KSA and her young self.

Some users compared her mode of greeting the septuagenarian to how Ayodeji Balogun, aka BigWiz, did while on stage with the KSA in 2013 when they both performed the song ‘Jaiye Jaiye,’ originally owned by Balogun.

However, some users weren’t satisfied as they said she still labelled KSA as an “uncle.”

An X user, @Oladapomikky1 tweeted with a photo caption of both greeting modes, “Ayra Starr with King Sunny Ade. Wizkid with King Sunny Ade while on Stage together. It’s high time we cancel her for disrespecting an icon like King Sunny Ade.”

@itzbasito wrote, “Wizkid laid down flat to greet King Sunny Ade, thats how you greet a legend and an elder.”

@47kasz tweeted, “After not greeting king sunny ade properly Ayra Starr still came on twitter to call him “uncle” Copying black America culture is too funny.. that’s daddy or grandpa!! 21yr and calling 77yrs old man uncle.”

His other tweet read, “After not greeting king sunny ade properly Ayra Starr still came on twitter to call him “uncle” Copying black America culture is too funny.. that’s daddy or grandpa!! 21yr and calling 77yrs old man uncle.”

@DanielRegha stated, “Ayra Starr did well to acknowledge her mistake, but King Sunny Ade is not her “Uncle”. She’s still disrespecting KSA by trying to downplay the seriousness of the situation. If she wasn’t aware of the Yoruba tradition, that would’ve been understandable. Hope she learns from this experience.”

Another user, @HafeezAkanni_ tweeted, “Generation don’t know King Sunny Ade, they don’t know his streaming and sales numbers, his impact from 70s, but they’re online capping. Go and check billboard, sales number and Gram. Then come back to respect the living legend.”

@Oladapomikky1 stated, “This is simply not acceptable. In what way will Ayra Starr shake hands with King Sunny Ade? Mehnnnnnnnaaaa ment?”
