A Magistrate’s Court in Ikirun, Osun State, has remanded 38-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Oladapo Jegede, at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over the alleged rape of a 19-year-old student.
The victim reportedly hired Jegede to convey her from Ada to Ilesa after she could not find a bus.
He allegedly diverted from the route, took her to a secluded area along Ada Road in Boripe Local Government Area, and raped her.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Jegede was arraigned before Magistrate Funke Oyeniyi on two counts—rape and unlawful sexual assault—under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Laws of Osun State 2021 and the Criminal Code. He pleaded not guilty and was unrepresented in court.
The case drew the intervention of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, who took over prosecution following allegations that police officers had delayed the case and exerted pressure on the survivor to drop the complaint.
The Magistrate ordered the immediate release of the case file to the Attorney General after the police prosecutor initially objected.
The Magistrate warned that any further obstruction could attract contempt charges.
The court adjourned the case to March 2, 2026, for continuation.
