AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE
The Kogi State Government has assessed the Iluke-Aiyetoro – Abugi-Eggan federal road and seeks Federal Government urgent attention to ameliorate the suffering of the people of the area by directing the Contractor handling the project to return to site.
The 79.3km Iluke-Aiyetoro – Abugi-Eggan Federal Road Project was awarded to Setraco Nigeria Ltd in July, 2020 but the contractor abandoned the site after completing only 6km portion of the road.
The Federal road traverses many communities in the three Local Government Areas of Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu and Lokoja, all in Kogi West Senatorial Zone.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Federal Project Implementation in the State, Chief Emmanuel Obasi made this known during a stopover at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Abugi Kupa in Lokoja Local Government Area, HRH, Daudu Kabo Isa III, Maiki Kupa in his palace on Saturday 07/09/24 while assessing the road as directed by His Excellency, Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo FCA.
According to him, His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo FCA has continued to reiterate his resolve and determination to synergize with the Federal Government to implement numerous Federal Government Projects in the State, especially in the area of road infrastructure.
It should be recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Mohammadu Buhari awarded the 25,352,783,772.43 contract to Setraco Nigeria Ltd in July 2020 for a duration of two years but the contractor completed only 6km portion of the road and abandoned it since April 2023.
The people of the area are agrarian in nature as they have very large fertile farmlands and find it extremely difficult to evacuate their farm products to the city to exchange them for money. Most of these farm products end up spoiling or wasting. Completing the road will therefore greatly improve movement of people, goods and services in the area and improve their standard of living.
The Iluke-Aiyetoro -Abugi – Eggan Federal Road traverses the following Communities: Iluke, Aiyetoro Kirin, Suku/Giro Kirin, Akutupa, Ishado Kirin and Ike Bunu in Kabba Bunu LGA; Aiyetoro Gbede and Aiyetoro Iyagbede in Ijumu LGA as well as Abugi Kupa, Yinkaragi, Tungan Rogo, Kapu, Kinami and Eggan in Lokoja LGA.
Gov Ododo is poised to synergize with Federal and Local Governments in the State to give Kogi roads serious turn around in his administration, hence the assessment tour of the road.
