The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State on Saturday elected new ward executives across 214 wards in 25 local government areas of the state.
The exercise, conducted to fill vacancies created by the expiration of the tenure of ward leaders, was held in line with the constitution of the party. The handover was supervised by a delegation from the party’s National Secretariat.
Leader of the delegation, Dr. Samuel Omotosho, described the congress as peaceful and well-received, noting that the large turnout reflected the people’s confidence in the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Omotosho said the congress demonstrated the growing strength of the PDP in Osun, adding that “Imole is here, and darkness has gone forever.” He also commended Governor Adeleke for sacrifices that, according to him, transformed the political landscape of the state.
According to him, “Going across all these local governments today, it shows that Osun State is PDP. Imole is everywhere, and PDP has shown the Southwest that things can be done better.
“Imole himself (Ademola Adeleke) is a man of impeccable character, someone who made sacrifices to bring about changes that many thought impossible a few years ago. We are all aware when the people of Osun State were in the land of the Egyptians (APC), but with Imole, the Egyptians they would see no more. Imole is here, and darkness has gone forever,”
He explained that congresses were held in 214 out of 332 wards due to logistical challenges in some areas, while stressing the party’s commitment to inclusiveness, particularly in ensuring full representation for women in leadership positions.
Addressing newsmen at the PDP Secretariat in Osogbo, the State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, said adequate security arrangements were made in collaboration with security agencies to ensure a smooth exercise.
He maintained that the party remains committed to lawful and transparent processes.
Bisi further noted that Governor Adeleke’s achievements in less than three years had surpassed what the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to accomplish in twelve years.
