The Ijo Oje Parapo Welfare Association of Nigeria and Overseas has confirmed that the World Egungun Festival will hold in Osun State in February 2026 following approval by the Ademola Adeleke led administration.
The President of the association, Prince Adeola Ayoola, confirmed this on Thursday during a meeting held in the Odeomu area of the state.
Prince Ayoola commended the Osun State Government and the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism for the physical and financial support given to the association during the last World Egungun Festival held in Ibadan.
Ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, the association’s president urged members to participate actively in politics in order to leave a positive legacy for themselves and their children, while appealing to them to avoid violence.
He also sought the cooperation of members ahead of the proposed festival in Osun, stressing the need for unity and collective effort to ensure the success of the programme.
Prince Adeola further encouraged members to work diligently within their capacities to ensure the 2026 World Egungun Festival records a large turnout and leaves a lasting impact.
Speaking at the meeting, the Osun State Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Hon. Abiodun Ojo, declared the state government’s full support for the festival, assuring that the ministry would play its role.
He emphasised the importance of peace and unity among members, noting that Egungun tradition does not promote violence, and stated that the state government does not discriminate on the basis of religion.
The association also empowered its members with grinding machines and cash support for business start ups.
The meeting was attended by officials of the Osun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as Alagbaas from different parts of the state.
