How  To Register For Permanent Voter’s Card Online

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rolled out its online registration system for Nigerians who want to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to INEC, the digital platform is designed to make the process easier and faster, allowing citizens to begin registration at home before completing it at designated centres nationwide. The online portal opened on August 18, 2025, while physical registration at INEC offices across the 36 states and the FCT will commence on August 25, 2025.

The Commission explained that the new arrangement helps prospective voters enter their details online and secure an appointment before visiting an INEC centre for biometric capture.

Who Can Register?

Nigerians who have reached the age of 18.

First-time registrants.

Voters seeking to transfer their polling unit.

Individuals replacing missing, stolen, or damaged PVCs.

INEC also cautioned that multiple registrations will not be accepted, and such entries risk being declared invalid.

Steps to Complete Online PVC Registration

1. Visit the INEC Portal

Go to cvr.inecnigeria.org and select “Get Started.”

First-time applicants should choose New Voter Pre-Registration.

Returning users can select options for transfer, replacement, or update of voter details.

2. Create a Personal Account

Fill in your name, phone number, email, and password.
Check your email inbox for a confirmation link. Click it to activate your account before proceeding.

3. Enter Your Personal Information

Provide your full biodata, residential address, and polling unit information.
Although optional, uploading a valid means of identification such as a National ID, International Passport, or Driver’s License is advised to make verification smoother.

4. Upload Passport Photographs

You will need to upload two passport photographs:

One with a straight face.

Another with a smile.

Ensure that the images are bright, clear, and taken against a plain background.

5. Book Your Biometric Appointment

Select a convenient date and the nearest INEC registration centre for biometric capture.
This session involves fingerprint scanning and facial recognition. Centres are open Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding public holidays.

If you miss your chosen date, you can log in to reschedule.

6. Collect Your Temporary Voter’s Card (TVC)

After your biometric data is captured, INEC will issue you a Temporary Voter’s Card (TVC). Keep it safe, as it will be required before you can receive your permanent card.

7. Pick Up Your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC)

INEC will announce when your PVC is ready, usually within a few weeks to three months. You must return to the same centre where your biometrics were captured with your TVC to collect it.

Why This Matters

With the 2027 general elections approaching, INEC is urging every eligible Nigerian to take advantage of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Registering for a PVC is the only way to participate fully in the electoral process and ensure your voice counts in shaping the nation’s future.
