Passing the JAMB examination is a big dream for many Nigerian students. For some, it is the gate to their dream course. For others, it is a second or even third attempt after past disappointments. No matter your situation, the truth remains that you can pass the 2026 JAMB exam if you prepare the right way.
Understand What JAMB Really Wants
Before you start reading, you must understand that JAMB is not testing how fast you can cram. JAMB tests how well you understand basic concepts. Many students fail because they rush to read everything without knowing what the exam body expects. Get the current JAMB syllabus and study only what is inside it. Anything outside the syllabus is a waste of time.
Start Early and Be Consistent
One of the biggest mistakes students make is waiting until two or three months to the exam before they start reading. Preparation for JAMB is not magic. It is gradual. Even if you read one or two topics daily, consistency will beat last minute rush. Start early and build a reading routine you can maintain.
Get the Right Study Materials
Not all textbooks are useful for JAMB. Use recommended textbooks for your subjects. Most importantly, get the JAMB past questions. Past questions are very powerful because JAMB often repeats questions or uses the same pattern. When you solve past questions, you begin to understand how JAMB sets questions and how to answer them.
Understand Topics Instead of Memorizing
Cramming may help you pass school exams but it will disappoint you in JAMB. JAMB questions are designed to confuse students who only memorize. Take time to understand each topic. If you do not understand something, ask questions or watch tutorial videos online. Once you understand, you will not forget easily.
Practice With CBT Mode
JAMB is a computer based exam, so reading alone is not enough. Practice with CBT software or mobile apps. This will help you get used to answering questions on a computer, managing time, and avoiding panic during the real exam. Many students know the answers but fail because they are not comfortable with the system.
Manage Your Time While Reading
Do not spend all your time on one subject and ignore others. Share your time wisely. Also, while practicing questions, train yourself to answer faster without rushing. Time management is very important in JAMB because you have limited time to answer many questions.
Avoid Exam Fear and Negative Talk
Fear has made many students fail exams they were well prepared for. Stop telling yourself that JAMB is hard or that you will fail. Your mind believes what you tell it. Stay positive. Believe that you can pass. Calm yourself before the exam and focus on what you know.
