A student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), identified as David, has spoken out after he was allegedly accused of rape following an argument linked to a trending rape-related issue.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the student said the allegation began after he shared his opinion about the “Mirabel issue” on his WhatsApp status.
According to him, the matter escalated when a lady, identified as Adeife who is also a student of the institution, reacted angrily to his post and began sending him several messages through his direct messages.
David claimed he ignored the messages at first but later responded and posted a screenshot of their chat on his status, which he said led to further insults and attacks.
He alleged that the lady eventually began sharing his content on her status and in group chats, labelling him a rapist and encouraging others to do the same.
David maintained that he has never raped anyone and said the accuser has provided no evidence to support the claim.
In the video, he said, “Good day everyone, my name is David. I’m the guy that was falsely accused of rape recently, which happened on the 17th of February 2026. So what really happened was that regarding this Mirabel issue, I posted my opinion on my WhatsApp status, blah blah blah like that.
“An issue that does not even concern her. And a few hours later, I reposted something because later on it was shown that maybe the Mirabel girl is kind of cooking up the story and stuff like that. Then next thing, this girl called Adeife just entered my DM through my status.
“She started sending different kinds of messages. She sent different types of messages like five times, which I ignored. So when I later replied, I posted a screenshot of her chat on my status.
“And then she kept on replying, cursing my parents, saying a whole lot about me. Then next thing, I gave her a reply that, you’re putting all this energy into me, just focus it on your perfume business, it would have been better. Then the next thing, this girl just started cursing me about my content, that I’m getting two likes, three likes, 100 comments, all sorts of stuff about me.
“Which I was not even bothered about, I was not moved at all. I was like, I won’t even bother to reply to her again. Not until when she just posted my contact on her status, tagging me as a rapist.
“Sending my content to groups that they should tag me as a rapist. I received a lot of messages from girls cursing me. One even went as far as to curse my parents, saying a whole lot about me.
“Now, I didn’t rape anybody. Because she’s yet to provide any evidence of me raping anybody. I didn’t know her.
“Even yesterday, the 18th of February, was the first time we happened to meet physically. So I’ve never met a Adeife before. So that’s everything that happened.
“Thank you so, so much. Like, I’m really, really pained. And I don’t even know, I can’t even think straight because I’m still shocked that someone like that can actually accuse me of rape.
“Thank you so, so much everyone. Thank you so, so much. I really, really appreciate this.”
