The Kogi State Commissioner for Police, Bethrand Onuoha has appealed to the organisers of October 1 planned protest to sheath their swords and give more time to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the challenges of the country.

This was made known by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Anya in a statement made available to newsmen shortly after the organisers visited the state command.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police to have appealed to the conscience of the organisers to apply patience and give the Federal Government some time to fix the economy and other related demands.

The statement reads in part, “Given the October 1st planned Nationwide Protest, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand Onuoha, today (28th September 2024) engaged with the Executive of “TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT” Kogi State Chapter at the Command Headquarters, Lokoja.

“The CP advised the Group to reconsider their planned protest and give the government more time to fix the economy of our dear Nation.

“He further stated that he called for the engagement meeting in response to their letter received Friday 27th September, 2024.

“He disclosed further that, the group has the right to peaceful protest in accordance with extant laws, but to avoid playing into the hands of disgruntled elements and or hoodlums and to avoid or prevent them from highjacking the process and unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens, destruction of their properties as well as damage of critical infrastructure which will in turn have serious adverse/negative impact on the nation’s economy.

“Leader of the group assured the CP that as enlightened and law-abiding Youths in Kogi State, they accepted his advice as a father and promised to remain committed to the peace, progress, and development of the State.

“He further stated that the Executive and Members of the Group will meet to deliberate on all the issues raised by the CP and come up with a reasonable resolution regarding their participation in the so-called protest.

“He, on behalf of the Group commended the CP for the constructive engagement which has gone a long way to enlighten them on their responsibilities as Youths who are Leaders of tomorrow and vanguard for development.
