AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina has applauded President Bola Tinuu for ordering the removal of tertiary institutions from the jaws of IPPIS.
While praising Tinubu, the varsity don revealed that the elimination of IPPIS and the reversal of the previously suggested 40% remittance of our IGR to the government is a glaring example of the President’s attentive listening skills, natural empathy, and compassionate nature toward the hopes and dreams of the personnel and students in the education sector.
These were made known on Monday, December 18 by Professor Abayomi Fasina during the annual leadership retreat organized for the SUG held at Western SUN Hotel, Ede, Osun State.
Fasina added that President Tinubu should be guaranteed that the nation’s educational progress will be accelerated by the autonomy that institutions demand.
Fasina said that while pleading with the federal government to quicken the process of granting universities greater autonomy, this would allow vice-chancellors greater freedom to seek out the brightest minds on the planet without being constrained by the bureaucracy of the Head of Service, IPPIS, and similar organizations.
He also cautioned that the Visitor should only act as a temporary check and balance for the Governing Council, which should be given complete control over university operations.
In a related development, Fasina said that the surge in the student population peaked at 55,000, making FUOYE the fourth most subscribed university in Nigeria according to data obtained from JAMB 2023.
The varsity head noted that the retreat’s goal was to instill high moral standards and ethics in the student body’s leadership, but he also said that it had created the dialectic of peaceful academic activities, which is why FUOYE is the fastest-growing university in Nigeria.
