A Nigerian pastor has sparked controversy after urging his congregation to obtain “spiritual fortification,” including charms, as protection against bandit attacks.
In a TikTok video, Pastor Oloruntimilehin Daramola instructed church members to pursue these forms of protection, claiming they offer stronger defense than calling on Jesus during violent encounters. He suggested that such spiritual measures were necessary for survival in regions plagued by insecurity.
Appearing in a purple robe and cap with a large cross necklace, the pastor warned members of his ministry to comply with his directive or face expulsion. He told congregants to equip themselves with anything capable of shielding them from armed attackers.
“You members, go and do something that can protect you,” he said in the clip. “If they come with guns to your surroundings, they should face each other and shoot each other. Or get bees to chase them. If they come to your church, they should be dead before getting there.”
The video has since drawn widespread reactions online, with many questioning the pastor’s message and its implications for religious practice and public safety.
