In a notable break from traditional sanctions, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has cursed those responsible for vandalizing transformers.
In a post shared on its official X handle, BEDC also directed its curse towards customers who engage in meter bypassing.
The post reads: “E no go beta for who dey vandalize transformer and who dey bypass.”
This sparked various reactions amongst netizens with some finding the new approach funny.
RowlandJ_nior while reacting, wrote: “Them dn employ Osas as SM manager .”
deluxe_K said: “Amen … same applies to who does not give light but keeps increasing tariff…”
Eromoseileso however shared his stance, saying: “BEDC should have a means of knowing who bypassed without physical inspection. For the transformer vandals, if there is constant electricity, they won’t dare it. However, my wish for all vandals is that they get electrocuted at the spot.”
JOECRACK001 however expressed surprise saying: “See wetin company dey talk online..”
Vandalism of transformers and other electricity infrastructure and bypassing of pre-paid meters are some of the challenges facing electricity distribution companies (DisCos) across the country.
DisCos across the country report on an almost daily basis the activities of vandals on transformers and other power installations.
