AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE
The Chairman, Youth and Student Mobilization Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State, David Ayodele Asalu, has presented WAEC and UTME forms to 550 students in Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state, AMILOADED reports.
Asalu presented the forms to students on Saturday.
While WAEC forms were presented to 250 students, UTME forms were presented to 300 beneficiaries.
Speaking on the development, Asalu said the presentation was to ensure that the youths are not barred from pursuing higher education in the state.
He said, “I have executed this intervention for years, across the four Local Governments of Ejigbo, Ede North, Ede South and Egbedore, as my personal contribution to the advancement of education in this region.
“I noted that over time, biting poverty and tightening economic conditions in the country has made many parents and guardians unable to finance their wards through higher education.
“My free WAEC and UTME forms is thus an approach to ensuring that these brilliant children of indigent parents are not barred from pursuing higher education because of their parents’ economic conditions. Over the past four years under this intervention, we have registered over 2500 students for WAEC and UTME respectively.
“While paying for WAEC and UTME registration does not wholly solve the tertiary education challenge for these students, I believe that it is a good point to start. Once they make the grades necessary to secure admission, I am also committed to giving scholarships to those of them who perform excellently. This scholarship award ranges from one-off awards to full scholarships for highly distinguished students whose examination registration fee we have paid at one time or another.
“I must point out that while I have a political profile and an ambition, my social development programmes are never mixed with politics. For example, the beneficiaries of today’s free WAEC and UTME registration were selected through a merit-based method that had the full participation of their school heads who recommended them to us as their most brilliant, but indigent students.
“Aside taking helping the indigent get quality education, this scheme is also a means of motivation to brilliant students. Knowing that there is reward for dedication to their studies, these students are encouraged to work harder and aim for the stars.”
Asalu, who called on other prominent people in the state to “kindly lend a hand like this to the advancement of indigent people in our society”, urged the beneficiaries to ensure they do not take the opportunity for granted.
“Face your studies and ensure that you put all your mind into your pursuit of quality education.
“As I have promised earlier, anyone of you who distinguishes themselves will stand the chance to enjoy scholarship for tertiary education in the school of their choice.
“I will continue to provide critical support, like our ongoing free tutorial programme across the Local Government, as the Lord gives me the opportunity to do,” he added.
