Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma popularly known as Bovi, has stirred up controversy as he shared his view on parenting and discipline, stating that he doesn’t advocate for beating children.
The comedian disclosed this while on an interview with a popular podcast team The Honest Bunch on Tuesday, December 17.
Bovi opened up about his childhood, revealing that the beatings he endured had no beneficial effect and instead fueled abusive behaviour.
He also encouraged parents to reflect on their motivations for disciplining their children.
He said: “I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. My son dey break television for the fun of it. If he vex, he will throw stuff and break it. He got to an age, and I saw the remorse.
“Thank God for capacity; if I couldn’t afford another TV, then the approach would have been different.
“That’s why I tell people, most times when we hit kids, check: are you really trying to correct them, or are you frustrated?”
Bovi is married to Kris Asimonye Ugboma, and together they have three children.
