BREAKING: ‘Resigns As Minister’ – APC National Secretary Blasts Wike

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress APC Senator Ajibola Basiru has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike to resign his appointment, accusing him of interfering in the affairs of the ruling party.

In a statement issued on Monday, Basiru said his attention was drawn to what he described as attacks by Wike against him and his office following his remarks that sitting governors remain leaders of the party in their respective states and deserve due respect from party organs.

He described the reaction as shocking, noting that such a simple statement should not attract harsh responses from a member of the Federal Executive Council.

The APC National Secretary stated that party records show that Wike is not a member of the APC and therefore lacks the right to meddle in the party’s internal affairs.

He explained that as National Secretary his duty covers the protection of the party’s interests across all states and not only his home state of Osun, adding that his comments on Rivers State APC affairs do not amount to interference.

Basiru also dismissed claims that he and other APC leaders were scrambling for an alleged N600 billion fund in Rivers State, describing the allegation as baseless and a form of blackmail.

He said his public record reflects integrity and challenged Wike to provide evidence to support the allegation or be prepared to face legal action.

Reacting to what he termed veiled threats, Basiru said he would not be intimidated, stressing that his faith remains strong and that political threats would not deter him.

He further stated that Wike’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not make him a member of the APC, noting that many Nigerians outside the party also support the President.

Basiru warned that any attempt by Wike to destabilise the APC in Rivers State or import practices from the Peoples Democratic Party would not be tolerated.

He advised Wike to resign as minister if he intends to continue causing confusion within the structures of the APC while serving in an APC led federal government.
