Protesting federal government pensioners have shut down the Federal Ministry of Finance over unpaid accrued rights.
The National Chairman of the National Union of Contributory Pensioners, Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, who led the senior citizens to the ministry, called for the immediate release of their accrued rights.
Accrued rights refer to the pension entitlements under the old scheme before the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme by the Federal Government in 2004.
By the Pension Act, all pension entitlements before 2004 were meant to be paid to the Pension Fund administrators of each federal government worker upon retirement.
However, Com. Nwaiwu claimed that many of his members who retired since 2003 were yet to have such entitlements paid to their PFAs by the Federal Government to enable them to draw from their accounts from the PASS.
