UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Should be an Enduring Legacy – Chairman, Osun House Committee On Health

The Chairman, Osun House of Assembly Committee on Health, Hon. Adenike Adeoye has commended the Chief Medical Director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Professor Peter Olaitan for his efforts during the Covid-19 outbreak as the State Incident Manager on Covid-19.

Mrs. Adeoye gave the commendation during the Oversight Visit to the hospital by the House Committee on Health.

She said the Committee came to assess the situation on the ground in the hospital and interact with the Management to know what the hospital expects from the Committee with a view to improving the standard of the hospital.

Hon Adenike Abioye said that the Teaching Hospital is the State’s inheritance from years of joint ownership of LAUTECH between Osun and Oyo.

To this end, she assured that the House of Assembly will work together with the Executive so as to ensure that Uniosun Teaching Hospital Osogbo is therefore of an enviable standard and rating.

While welcoming the Committee, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Peter Babatunde Olaitan commended the State government for giving attention to the needs of the hospital.

He was optimistic that attention would be given to capital projects this year by the State government. He further highlighted plans towards ensuring the delivery of quality health care services. He said his management Committee will work towards making the hospital a frontline tertiary institution in the state and beyond.

Prof Olaitan further said the hospital plans to establish a Fertility Unit to reduce cases of infertility at reduced costs to those who cannot afford the cost of Invitro-fertilization (IVF) in the private hospitalsadding that UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo hopes to perform the first kidney transplant before the end of the year while the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital will be expanded to accommodate more patients and facilities.

On Public Private Partnership (PPP), the Chief Medical Director said the hospital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with some organizations to give the hospital a CT Scan machine as well as other equipments. In line with this, the Neo-Natal Unit will be equiped with hitech facilities so that premature children can be properly taken care of.

Meanwhile, Prof Olaitan further disclosed that the State government has plans to give the inward road to the hospital a facelift which will enhance and beautify its immediate environment.

The Committee during the oversight tour visited some selected clinics and facilities including General Out Patients Department, Surgery Out Patients clinic, Medical Outpatients clinic, Gas Production facilities, Medical Library and more others.
