A lawyer and core loyalist to Osun Governor, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called on a member of the House of Representatives, Wole Oke, to account for the sum of ₦500 million allegedly appropriated for projects in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State.
Oke represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun in the House of Representatives.
In a series of post online, Olajengbesi questioned the status of a project captured under the 2024 Federal Budget for the construction of inner roads and provision of solar street lights in Ikeji-Arakeji.
The lawyer alleged that the contract was awarded in the name of a company, MC Aremo Nig. Ltd., which he claimed is linked to some of the lawmaker’s staff.
He specifically mentioned Ajibola Olujobi, identified as the General Manager of the company and described as a long-time Personal Assistant to the lawmaker.
The also listed other individuals he alleged to be directors or shareholders of the company and called on them to provide details of the contracts awarded to the firm.
Olajengbesi further alleged that several individuals whose names appeared on documents related to empowerment programmes had denied receiving items or signing the documents, raising claims of possible forgery.
He called on the lawmaker to clarify the status of the road and solar light projects and to produce individuals listed as beneficiaries.
Reacting to the allegations, Oke, in a statement contained in a flyer circulated online, denied any wrongdoing and maintained that he has a clean record as a parliamentarian.
He stated that anyone with concerns about his records should follow due process and approach appropriate authorities rather than resorting to blackmail.
The lawmaker said all projects paid for have been executed, adding that inclusion of a project in the budget does not automatically translate to release of funds for execution.
He advised that inquiries about constituency projects should be directed to the relevant procuring agencies and urged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing to approach anti-corruption agencies such as the ICPC or EFCC, stating that he stands by his record.
