An English Department student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Adeife, publicly accvsed a 200-level student named David of being a rapist and rape apologist on social media.
She shared his phone number, leading to a b4rrage of abvsive calls and messages after sharing it in a WhatsApp group.
The accusation reportedly stemmed from David’s repost of content related to r49e, which infuriated her.
Summoned by the university Senate, Adeife provided no evidence to support her claims. Following the investigation, which found the allegations baseless, she released a 41-second video apology, admitting her emotions got the better of her in the “heat of the moment” and retracting the statement.
The university informed her department and parents, though no formal sanctions like expulsion have been announced yet.
The incident has sparked online outrage, with many demanding stronger consequences to restore David’s reputation and deter future false accvsations.
Many assessed that such cases undermine genuine rape victims’ credibility when they come forward.
