
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has withdrawn from the investigation it launched into the viral video of the alleged sexual assault shared on social media by a young woman named Mirabel.
LIB had earlier reported that Mirable in the viral video claimed that she was sexually assaulted by an anonymous man who invaded her home, used a face razor to tear her private part open before forcefully having sexual intercourse with her.
Mirabel in a follow-up video mentioned she took a poisonous substance and was rushed to the hospital where she was revived.
The video elicited reactions on social media after Mirable claimed she is an orphan and that she is suicidal.
Following the public outcry, Lagos DSVA released a statement calling for help in locating Mirabel with a view of carrying out a detailed investigation that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the accused man.
In a follow-up statement released this afternoon February 18, the agency said it was able to successfully establish communication with a close friend of Mirable who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital.
It says it has confirmed that the incident happened in Ogun state which is beyond their jurisdiction, It added that the Ogun state police command has commenced an investigation into the incident.
‘’We sincerely appreciate members of the public who provided helpful information via our direct messages, as well as everyone who tagged the Agency to ensure swift intervention.
We have since confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual V!olence Agency. In the spirit of inter agency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information at our disposal has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.
We understand that the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and due process.”
