The Osun State chapter of Accord Party has cautioned residents to be vigilant against attempts to obtain their personal information, particularly National Identification Numbers, NIN, by individuals allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the state chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Akande, and made available to journalists in Osogbo.
The party advised residents to firmly resist any request for sensitive personal data under any political, social, or administrative guise, describing such actions as suspicious.
Akande alleged that “APC agents were adopting deceptive tactics to harvest personal information from unsuspecting members of the public”.
He stated that legitimate political engagement or party activities do not require citizens to submit sensitive data such as their NIN to party representatives.
“No genuine political party programme, engagement or membership exercise requires the surrender of personal data to party agents. Such requests should be treated as a red flag,” he said.
The Accord chairman urged residents to report any such incidents to relevant authorities, including security agencies and regulatory institutions.
He commended residents of Osun State for their continued vigilance and refusal to participate in activities they consider questionable.
Akande also referenced past political disputes in the state, alleging that residents had previously been subjected to economic hardship linked to governance and political actions.
He claimed that recent efforts to collect personal information were part of a broader strategy aimed at regaining political relevance in the state.
“There is nothing the APC has not thrown at the good people of Osun State to weaken their will and undermine their support,” he said in the statement.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to issue-based politics, respect for citizens’ rights, and the protection of personal data across the state.
Accord also called on security agencies and relevant institutions to monitor the situation closely and take steps to protect residents from potential exploitation and identity-related crimes.
