There was tension in some motor parks within Osogbo metropolis on Sunday, following the reported killing of a former unit chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Kazeem Oyewole in Osogbo by some yet to be identified hoodlums.
After the killing which reportedly occurred in the afternoon, some people believed to be friends of the deceased, who served as a part-time chairman NURTW chairman of Aregbe Unit between 2018 and 2022, moved round some major motor parks in Osogbo, searching for those allegedly involved in the death of Oyewole.

It was not immediately clear how the deceased was killed, but a resident, who watched from safe distance, but preferred anonymity for safety reasons, told Punch that some hoodlums had set up a base around Elelede Junction and were collecting money from passersby under the guise of raising funds for a proposed carnival.
“While that was going on, a motorcycle carrying two people arrived the scene and those hoodlums forced the two passengers to disembark. They started fighting those passengers. I heard gunshots. They later identified one of the two persons that were attacked as Kazeem.
“Later, they brought big stones and smashed the head of a man identified as Kazeem. He died on the spot. The other person however escaped from the scene of the attack with open wound. After the incident, the hoodlums fled before police would arrive the scene,” the resident said.
Also speaking on the incident, a shop owner at Elelede Junction, identified simply as Basira, said few businesses that opened for operations in the area had to hurriedly shut down when the crises started.
She added, “The person that was killed was identified as Kazeem Oyewole by some NURTW people that came after the incident. He was said to be former part-time chairman of NURTW unit along Osogbo/Gbongan road in Aregbe Area.”
When contacted by the Publication, the Police/Public Relations Officer of Osun Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the killing.
Ojelabi said, “We are aware of the incident that happened at Orita Elelede (Osogbo), and we deployed our men to the place immediately information got to us, but unfortunately, one person was confirmed dead. He was identified as Kazeem. Other name unknown. Investigation has commenced.”
