Osun: Monarch Worshipping Deities Betrays God, Says Oluwo

By Thomas Abidoye

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Telu I, has declared that any monarch who worships deities is a betrayer of God and the royal institution.

In a post shared on his official social media page, Oluwo stated that kingship is a pure institution of God and should not be mixed with the worship of deities or any form of partnership with Olodumare.

He explained that Yoruba kings answer the same name as God, known as Kabiesi, and that this spiritual status places a responsibility on monarchs to uphold divine purity in their offices.

According to the Oluwo, any monarch who associates kingship with deity worship does not truly represent the sacred nature of the throne and falls outside the divine foundation of traditional rulership.

The monarch noted that only accidental monarchs engage in the worship of deities, stressing that such practices contradict the original purpose and sanctity of kingship.

Oluwo maintained that traditional rulership must remain aligned with God, adding that the integrity of the throne depends on the spiritual conduct of those who occupy it.
