The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru has withdrawn from the 2026 Osun State governorship race.
Basiru announced his withdrawal on Saturday at commissioning of his office building in Osogbo.
Explaining his decision, Basiru said the enormous responsibilities attached to his current position influenced his withdrawal from the race.
He stated that after consultations with party leaders and stakeholders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he concluded that he would not participate in the 2026 governorship election.
Basiru noted that the demands of his national assignment, particularly the need to strengthen party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections, require his full commitment to ensuring the unity, success and stability of the APC at all levels.
