US-based travel advisor and licensed therapist, Li Latrice, popularly known as @curvygirl_li, has gone viral on Threads after sharing a reflective post about how life has unfolded far differently from what she originally planned.
In her post, Latrice began with the statement, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans,” a phrase that set the tone for her personal reflection on growth, acceptance, and mental health.
She revealed that by age 25, her plan was to have two degrees, a husband, and children. However, at 34, she said she is happily single, not using either of her degrees, and content with how her life has turned out.
Latrice admitted she feels some anxiety about motherhood, particularly the thought of giving up the freedoms she currently enjoys. Nonetheless, she expressed excitement for what the future holds.
She stated that although her life looks nothing like she imagined, she has found peace and pride in her journey, adding that she is open to whatever “Chapter 34” brings her way.
Reflecting on her past decisions, the travel advisor noted that some choices could have taken her in a completely different direction, but she remains grateful for God’s guidance and protection.
She used the opportunity to encourage others who may feel off course in life, affirming that divine support is often present even when it’s not immediately felt.
Addressing mental health, Latrice highlighted the growing recognition of anxiety, stating that earlier generations likely struggled in silence due to lack of awareness and openness.
As a therapist, she welcomed the current shift toward embracing vulnerability and normalizing conversations about emotional well-being.
She urged society to continue dismantling mental health stigmas and support those navigating personal challenges with compassion and understanding.
She wrote, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans…” Plan A was to have two degrees, a husband, and kids by 25. Now here I am at 34—not using either of my degrees, happily single, and low-key anxious about the idea of having children and giving up my current freedoms.
“My life looks nothing like I thought it would… and I’m totally OK with that. I can’t wait to see what Chapter 34 has in store!
“I’m proud of where I am, but also humble enough to admit that I’ve made decisions that could have taken my life in a very different direction. Through it all, God has kept me. Know that He’s keeping you too— even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.
“Anxiety is a lot more prevalent in recent years, and while it may seem like it came out of nowhere, I believe the older generation refused to put a name to it and simply struggled in silence.
“As a licensed therapist, I’m grateful that we’re now embracing vulnerability, acknowledging our struggles, and actively working to overcome them. Let’s keep breaking the stigma around mental health!”
