Ijo Oje Parapo Welfare Association of Nigeria and Overseas stormed Osun State on Friday, May 9, 2025, as Chief Akanmu Oluseye Gbolagade was installed as the new Oloponda Oje of Iwoland.

The installation ceremony began at the Alagbaa Iwo house, where Chief Akanmu was officially conferred with the traditional title.

The celebration later moved to Chief Akanmu’s residence, where guests were warmly welcomed for a reception filled with cultural entertainment.

Egungun masquerades thrilled the crowd with captivating displays, while traditional drummers and dancers entertained guests from various towns and communities.

Speaking at the reception, the Worldwide President of Ijo Oje Parapo Welfare Association, Prince Adeola Ayoola, congratulated Chief Akanmu on his installation.

He encouraged members and residents to support the new Oloponda in his leadership for the progress of Egungun culture.

The President also entertained guests with his dancing skills, joining the Egungun troupe in celebration of the historic moment.

Speaking with Amiloaded, Chief Akanmu Oluseye described the Oloponda title as one of the most important in the Egungun tradition, noting that it cannot be overlooked due to its spiritual and cultural significance.

He said his major goal is to promote and project the image of Egungun worship across Iwo, Osun, and other parts of Nigeria. He urged Egungun worshippers to stay committed and resilient, while serving with clean hearts.

Also speaking, the Asiwaju of Ijo Oje Parapo welfare Association of Nigeria and Overseas, Prince Adegoke Ayilara, praised Chief Akanmu’s integrity and described him as a dedicated member of Ijo Oje Parapo with proven leadership qualities.

He advised Egungun followers to carry out their traditional roles without fear, as long as they obey the law and conduct themselves with discipline and respect.

Prince Ayilara stressed the importance of good conduct among worshippers, urging them to invest in quality costumes that reflect the dignity of Egungun. He revealed that some Egungun attires cost up to N3 million, N4 million, or even N5 million.

He emphasized that Egungun worship is not for hooligans and warned that the association has zero tolerance for violence or unruly behavior.

Speaking earlier at the Alagbaa Iwo House on behalf of the President, Prince Ayilara also warned Egungun worshippers against beating members of the community during festivals. He urged them to cooperate with the government and maintain peace.

He called on the new Oloponda to show exemplary leadership, promote unity among members, and preserve the cultural heritage of the land.

In his remarks,the Alagba of Ileogbo, Chief Ojesola Aniyikaye, described Chief Akanmu as a humble and committed individual who has contributed immensely to the Egungun tradition.

He prayed that the gods would guide Chief Akanmu in his new role and encouraged him to remain patient and seek wisdom from elders throughout his leadership journey.

The event was attended by traditional title holders, community leaders, Egungun devotees, and cultural enthusiasts from far and near.
