On Saturday morning, policemen attached to Owode Police Station in Ogun State, arrested Oguntayo Bolanle, a resident of Akia Community, over claims that she was planning to lead a mob action against Elijah Ola, who assaulted her a day earlier.
According to FIJ report, Ola, popularly referred to as Alaja, a ‘big boy’ in the community, visited Bolanle’s family house on Friday evening at about 6 pm.
While there, an argument ensued and he physically assaulted her, slacked her shirt and inflicted injuries on her body.
“He had been making advances to her for a while now but she always tells him no,” a source told FIJ.
“I have a farm there, and everyone in the community knows him as one of those boys who came into questionable wealth and thinks he can do as he likes.
“After beating her, he left and went to a hotel to hide. Bolanle’s father got home from his farm later in the night and he went looking for Ola but did not find him.”
The source said two policemen showed up in mufti on Saturday morning to arrest Bolanle.
“They did not say what she did or why they came, but her father followed her to the station,” he said.
While at the station, the police said they invited her in because Ola reported a threat to his life.
“The guy went to report to the police because he was scared of mob violence,” the source revealed to FIJ.
After taking Bolanle’s statement, the police let her go.
The source added that the police did not say they would investigate Ola for assault or protect Bolanle “because he is the complainant”.
The publication called Omolola Odutola, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on Saturday. She said the family should call the DPO, whose number she provided.
Odutola also promised to investigate the matter.
