Former House of Assembly Candidate, Ononiwu Moses, has called for zoning of 2027 Governorship ticket to Owerri zone.
He made the call during a meeting of youth life matters at his residence recently.
Ononiwu stated that Owerri zone deserves the opportunity to lead the state in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
According to him, the zone should be allowed to produce the next governor of imo state, for equity, representation, and the potential for effective governance.
He said, “One of the fundamental principles of democracy is equity. Imo State is divided into three zones: Owerri, Orlu, and Okigwe. Historically, the governorship has rotated among these zones, with Orlu and Okigwe having had their turns in recent years. Allowing Owerri Zone to produce the next governor would ensure that all regions of the state have a fair opportunity to lead. This rotation fosters a sense of unity and inclusiveness among the different ethnic groups and communities within Imo State, promoting peace and cooperation.
“Owerri Zone is home to a significant portion of Imo State’s population. The people of this zone have unique needs and aspirations that deserve to be represented at the highest level of government. By electing a governor from Owerri Zone, the state can ensure that the interests and concerns of its citizens are adequately addressed. A governor from this zone would be more attuned to the local issues, such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, which are critical for the overall progress of the state.
“Owerri Zone has a wealth of talented individuals with the experience and vision necessary to lead Imo State effectively. The zone has produced numerous professionals, academics, and leaders who have made significant contributions to the state and beyond. By allowing Owerri Zone to produce the next governor, Imo State can benefit from innovative ideas and strategies that can drive development and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
