Man Shoots Trader For Demanding Payment Of N500 Drink In Osun

Osun police command have apprehended Segun Ogunfunmilayo, a man believed to be part of Alora cult, for allegedly trying to kill a local shopkeeper.

According to Adeola Adeoye, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, the event took place around 9:00 p.m. on March 8, 2025, at a small store in the Bihari/Ishola neighborhood of Ede.

Reports indicate that Ogunfunmilayo purchased an energy drink costing N500 and took an additional N400 in cash from the shop owner, assuring him that he would send N900 via bank transfer to cover both amounts.

The shopkeeper agreed to the arrangement and waited for the payment confirmation. Ogunfunmilayo insisted he had completed the transfer, but no notification appeared on the seller’s end.

When the shopkeeper approached him to report that the money hadn’t arrived, Adeoye stated that the suspect reacted violently. Rather than resolving the payment issue, Ogunfunmilayo allegedly pulled a handgun from his bag, fired at the shopkeeper, striking both of his hands, and then fled the scene.

The statement reads in part, “On March 8, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m., Segun Ogunfunmilayo went to the complainant’s shop located in the Bihari/Ishola area, Ede, Osun State, and bought an energy drink at the rate of five hundred naira (N500). He demanded cash of four hundred naira (N400) from the complainant so that he could transfer the sum of nine hundred naira (N900) to him, which he obliged.

“When he did not receive a credit notification for the sum of nine hundred naira (N900) said to have been transferred by the suspect, he went to inform the suspect that he hadn’t received the alert. To his surprise, the suspect brought out a cut-to-size pistol from his bag, shot him in his left hand and right arm, and took to his heels.

“On receipt of the report, the police swung into action in collaboration with the Civilian JTF and trailed the suspect to his hideout, where he was arrested. One cut-to-size pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect as exhibits. The suspect, who confessed to being a member of the Alora cult group, will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.”
