‘We Did Not Borrow a Kobo to Fund Projects’- Adeleke Unveils Plan For 2025

Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed that his administration has not borrowed a single kobo to carry out projects throughout Osun State.

Speaking during a press conference held on Tuesday, Adeleke unveiled a N159 billion infrastructure development plan for 2025.

Adeleke also outlined the progress made since the launch of a multi-billion-naira infrastructure scheme in December 2023.

He noted that over 150 kilometers of roads, 200 primary healthcare centers, and 99 schools have either been completed or refurbished across Osun State.

Providing updates on major ongoing projects, he stated that the Ilesa dualisation and Ile-Ife flyover projects are both 60% complete.

“The Oke-Fia flyover is over 90% finished, while the LAMECO flyover is approximately 50% done. We are pressing forward with these significant projects and assure the public of their completion within this fiscal year,” he added.

The governor revealed that the new 2025 projects include a N101.8 billion investment in the road sector. Key initiatives include the Osogbo-Iwo-Oyo State boundary road, budgeted at N5.94 billion, and the Osogbo-Ikirun-Kwara State boundary road, allocated N13.7 billion.

Additional projects planned for 2025 include the N10.42 billion dualisation of the Odo Ori Junction-Post Office Junction-Adeeke Junction and the N12.65 billion dualisation of Ila township road.

“Other significant roadworks include the ₦8.05 billion reconstruction of the Ijebu-Jesa-Ere-Ilahun-Ibokun road and the ₦10.89 billion Ada-Ibokun-Ilase-Idominasi road project.

“Upgrading, lighting, and beautification of major roads and roundabouts in the state capital will also receive ₦5 billion in funding.

“In the education sector, ₦1.98 billion has been earmarked for the renovation and construction of schools across various districts. Projects include the renovation of a school hall and pavilion at Ede High School, Ede, at ₦50.2 million and the ₦200 million renovation of Agbonran School of Science, Ede South.

“Other schools benefiting from the plan include Oranmiyan Memorial Grammar School, Ile-Ife, at ₦149.5 million, and Ogedengbe School of Science, Ilesa, with ₦137 million allocated for classroom and hall renovations.”

Gov Adeleke noted that the health sector will also receive a major boost, with N2.76 billion designated for the full renovation of the remaining 124 primary healthcare centers across the state, as this aligns with the administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare access and quality for Osun residents.

“Our administration will not leave any project uncompleted. We remain focused on providing quality infrastructure that will positively impact the lives of our people.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I want to reiterate that, as our standing policy, we are not borrowing a kobo for the funding of these projects. Our approach to funding the new infrastructure plan is to rely on state allocations from the Federation Allocation, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and special funds accruing from the return of funds owed to the states by the Federal Government.

“We will also be cutting waste and costs while deploying our local content policy to boost the local economy. On the local content, Osun money will continue to flow within the Osun economy. We will continue to engage our local companies, local engineers, suppliers, and artisans.

“We are building a stronger, more prosperous Osun State, and these projects are steps in the right direction.”
