Ede South Local Government in Osun has won the 5th edition of the Late Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial football competition after a thrilling performance, AMILOADED Reports.
The competition’s final between Boripe and Ede South Local Government was held at Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
The tournament, sponsored by Hon. Bamidele Salam annually, is in honor of the late Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first Executive Governor of Osun State, who passed away in April 2017.
In his address, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Government Affairs and Protocol, Hon. Soji Ajeigbe, appreciated the sponsor, Rep Bamidele Salam, for the good work he has been doing to promote local football.
Gov. Adeleke urged players to continue in the spirit of sportsmanship, promoting unity among the youth in the State.
The Governor charged sports professionals at all levels in the state to take medical checkups seriously before and after engaging in any sporting activities.
Speaking with newsmen, Hon. Bamidele Salam said the competition was very exciting, with scintillating displays, affirming that grassroots football is developing fast.
Hon. Salam stated that the expertise of the young footballers in the state is improving every year.
According to him, “It’s been very exciting, as well as a scintillating display. It’s obvious that football is really developing fast, growing well, and the expertise of our young persons is actually improving every year. I’m so glad and thanked everyone who has been part of the success story. We look forward to the 6th edition in 2026.”
While addressing newsmen at the final of the competition, the Chairman, Planning Committee of the competition, Hon. Oladele Bamiji, stated that the cooperation of the stakeholders was very exceptional this year, while maintaining that the players’ patience and compliance contributed significantly to the success of the 5th edition.
He commended the sportsmanship act of the players and coaches and the sponsor, Rep Bamidele Salam, who has not relented over the years in contributing to the growth of grassroots soccer.
In his own remark, the Ede South LG Coach, Wasiu Ajani Adesina, described the Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial football competition as the best in Osun, while praying for the organizer’s success.
The Ede South LG football team, who came first, received N1.2 million cash prize, while Boripe LG Team and Ejigbo LG, who came second and third, received N700,000 and N450,000, respectively.
The event was graced by Osun Government officials, football enthusiasts, supporters, and stakeholders across Osun State as the thrilling competition came to an end.
