A viral video showing the Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa I, kneeling to greet the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has sparked outrage and debate among Yoruba indigenes and cultural enthusiasts.
The footage, which surfaced online earlier this week, has since drawn criticism, with many describing the act as a desecration of Yoruba royal dignity.
Reacting to the viral video,A social media user, Lanlehin Oluwaseun Peter said “Yoruba culture is on the decline.In this video, it was seen that Timiagbale, the Timi of Ede is prostrating to greet the Emir of Ilorin. A scene that depicts being conquered by a Warlord.
“What’s happening to Yoruba culture??
The tradition that the Yoruba race holds is being traded off by liberal kings. And leaders and conservatives are watching as the culture and tradition is being watered down.
“Ayoade Ojeniyi Dele Olagunju Olukunle Durodolu what is happening to our Traditional rulers in Yoruba land?? What is really going on??This is an eyesore!!!Timo of Ede!!! Ahhhhh I can’t believe this.”
In his own comment, Badmus Olaida Said; “Must We Talk About Everything? What’s the issues About Timi kneel down to greet Emir of Ilorin? It’s Timi Choices Not Mine!”
