You Lack Power to Investigate Court Decisions on Olowookere Case – Osun Masterminds Cautions Adeleke

An Osun-based civil society group, The Osun Masterminds, has cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke on his move to investigate court decisions on the Olowookere case.

Recall that Olowookere was arrested alongside another convict, Sunday Morakinyo, in Oyan, Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State, in November 2010, and was sentenced to death by hanging for armed robbery at the time.

The group strongly advised the Osun state government to tread softly and not allow itself to be misled by politicians who have no regard for appropriateness.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Monday during the Osun Masterminds’ monthly media parley, the Executive Director of TOM, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, said the executive arm of government has no power to investigate decisions of the court. He added that the governor retains the right to grant clemency, but this must be exercised with caution.

Oyedokun-Alli also accused the Osun state assembly under Speaker Adewale Egebedun of lacking accountability and recklessly spending over N2 billion without completing any visible projects.

He said, ” We raised vital questions about the level of accountability in the Osun State House of Assembly as far back as March 2024. As of the end of Quarter 3 2024, the Osun State House of Assembly had expended 2,330,854,962.25. Our question then, as we ask again now, is what responsibilities could have gulped over 2 billion in 9 months?

“Till date, the visible projects that the Assembly is undertaking have been abandoned. The Gate House project and the rehabilitation of the Assembly Quarters remain uncompleted till date, further raising our worries about the lack of accountability under Speaker Adewale Egbedun.

“For an arm of Government that generates close to zero income for Government, expenses that cannot be justified are reckless and irresponsible.”

On the plans by the Adeleke administration to resuscitate technical colleges, Oyedokun-Alli said; “In March 2024, we commended plans by the Osun State Government to resuscitate the State’s Technical Colleges. Almost nine months after that announcement however, we do not see any visible action that matches the promises made earlier in the year.

“We ask the Osun State Government as the year closes, what has happened to the plans to resuscitate the Technical Colleges?”

On the decreasing cost of Fuel, Oyedokun-Ali advised President Tunubu not rest until the country have attained a pump price that does not make life miserable for the common man

While sympathizing with the victim of the giveaway stampedes across the country, He urged the President to find ways to alleviate the suffering of the common man who has been impoverished by Government’s economic policies.
