‘Education Is Not Just About Academics’ – Oyinlola Tells College Students

Former Governor Of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has shared with the college students that education is not just about academics, but building relationships, overcoming challenges, and achieving aspirations.

He stated this on Thursday at the formal inauguration of Alolade Oyinlola College of Health Sciences and Information Technology, Okuku and 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony for pioneer students of the institution.

Oyinlola who was also the proprietor of the collegeI encouraged the pioneer students to remain focused, disciplined, and determined, and make the most of the opportunity by exploring every resource, mentorship, and extracurricular activity available to them in the institution.

According to him, “Distinguished guests, I am pleased to announce that all our programs are fully accredited by the relevant professional bodies. Furthermore, we have established partnerships with institutions, organizations, and government agencies to provide students with practical experience and industry exposure, preparing them for life after graduation.

“While our School of Health Sciences is already operational, the School of Information Technology is set to commence in 2025. We are also in the process of securing National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation for both Ordinary and Higher National Diploma programs. This will enable our graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, further enhancing their opportunities.

“Today’s ceremony is both a celebration of the College’s inauguration and the matriculation of our pioneer students. I must express my profound gratitude to His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, for his support. The Government of Oyo State, under his visionary leadership, has students from all the local government areas of Oyo State in this College. These students’ fees have been fully covered for the duration of their programs, reflecting a remarkable commitment to education.On behalf of the college’s Board of Trustees, Council, Management, staff, and students, I extend our heartfelt thanks to His Excellency. We equally thank His Excellency, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke of Osun State for his interest and moral support.

“We appeal to other state governments, public spirited individuals, foundations, and corporate organisations, to join in equipping our teeming youths with skills and knowledge that will see them through the challenges of this century. Our college is deeply rooted in the community, and we are committed to making a positive impact at the grassroots level”

Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun, urged stakeholders to prioritise education for the fast growth and development of the country.

They commended the proprietor of the institution, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola for establishing the school,stressed the need to have competent manpower for the health sector for the benefit of Nigerians.

It was gathered that Governor Seyi Makinde sponsored 70 students drawn from all the local government of his state.

In his own remarks, the chairman, Board of Trustees ot the institution, and former executive secretary, NUC, Prof. Peter Okebukola noted that the school is the only college of its status in the whole world that has about 40 per cent of full professors teaching students.
