Nigerian afrobeats star Davido has highlighted the need for visionary leadership to drive Nigeria forward as a nation.
The globally acclaimed artiste shared his perspective during an interview with Elevate Africa, published on YouTube on Thursday.
“We can’t go forward without…we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing,” Davido emphasized, underscoring the critical role of competent governance in fostering development.
The singer praised the resilience and adaptability of Nigerians, noting that these qualities have enabled them to thrive in challenging environments.
However, he lamented that the absence of effective leadership has been a major obstacle to the nation’s advancement.
Responding to the question, “Where do you think Africa should be by now, and how do we get there through music?” Davido reflected on Nigerians’ enduring strength and determination.
“I tell people, I say if you can survive in Lagos or you can survive in Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he remarked.
Davido further highlighted the global presence of Nigerians as a testament to their resilience and influence.
“Nigeria, if you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or…you have Nigerian friends everywhere in the world. I fly to do shows, Nigerian restaurants are there, and Nigerian communities are there. It just shows that we’re a force,” he noted.
While celebrating these achievements, Davido reiterated that Nigeria’s ability to lead on a global scale hinges on the emergence of capable leadership.
“I just feel the only thing is just missing is just the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” he concluded.
