The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Osun chapter, has declared support for Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Osun Park Management Committee, Nurudeen Wakili Alowonle, on Thursday, the union distanced itself from alleged attempts to remove Gov. Adeleke from office in 2026.
The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to recent statements made by a few disgruntled elements within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Osun chapter, claiming that the union is preparing to vote against Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026.
“We wish to categorically reject these baseless remarks, which do not represent the position of the majority of NURTW members or the people of Osun State.
“It is important to emphasize that the NURTW, as a reputable non-partisan union, is committed to the welfare of its members, not political involvement. Governor Adeleke’s administration introduced the Park Management Committee (PMC) to reform and improve the transport sector for the benefit of all stakeholders. The majority of NURTW members are fully committed to this initiative, recognizing that it promotes professionalism, orderliness, and better working conditions within the transport system.
“The claims of a purported Osun Acting NURTW chairman, Alhaji Kazeem Oyewale, who spoke during the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the Owa Obokun palace hall, Ilesa on Thursday is nothing more than the expressions of frustration from those unwilling to acknowledge the sweeping progress being made under Governor Adeleke’s administration. These elements are driven by personal interests rather than the collective good of the people.
“Governor Adeleke has consistently prioritized the welfare of Osun workers and pensioners, ensuring timely payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities. His administration’s infrastructure development, from roads to schools, healthcare to agriculture, has made significant impacts, further solidifying Osun’s path to sustainable growth. These achievements speak to a government that is focused on delivering people-oriented governance.
“The good people of Osun including members of the transport sector are fully aware of these positive developments, and will continue to stand firmly behind Governor Adeleke’s leadership. The progress being made is tangible, and we are confident that the people will again vote for him in 2026 to ensure the continuity of these transformative policies and initiatives.
“We urge the public to disregard the divisive rhetoric from a minority of disgruntled voices. The people of Osun are enjoying the benefits of good governance, and no distraction will derail their commitment to supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.”
AMILOADED had earlier reported that a faction of Osun NURTW led by Acting Chairman, Alhaji Kazeem Oyewale vowed to vote out Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026.
Alhaji Oyewale, stated this during the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the Owa Obokun palace hall, Ilesa on Thursday.
While addressing newsmen, he noted that NURTW is apolitical union amidst report that its ex-chair, Folorunso Salami joined a political party with members of the union.
Oyewale said: “I feel compelled to address the recent reports concerning the former Osun NURTW Chairman, Chief Olalekan Folorunsho, who allegedly switched political affiliations and purportedly led union members to follow suit. It is imperative to clarify that NURTW is a non-partisan union that unites law-abiding citizens working in the road transport sector.
“The Osun Council of NURTW has no involvement in the former Chairman’s political transition, and it is crucial to emphasize that our union remains apolitical.”
He added: “Those who are suffering in this government of Adeleke are many and our members are part of them because he sacked them when he assumed office in 2022.
“There is no gainsaying, anybody who sees to sacking of people, one needs to work assiduously to ensure that he gets sacked. Our members are fully ready to ensure that we sack Adeleke while seeking re-election in 2026.”
