Catholic Church Speaks Out on Priest’s Viral Wedding Story

AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE

The Catholic Diocese of Abakakili in Ebonyi State has debunked claim of a priest getting married to his lover in the state.

It was claimed earlier on social media that a Catholic priest, Jude Obasi, allegedly got married to his lover on 25 May in Abakakili, the state capital. The wedding, according to the report, took place at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Abakakili.

Photos of the priest allegedly from Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state and his supposed lover in a wedding dress were also shared on social media.

Reacting to this, the Diocesan Chancellor, Matthew Opoke stated that no priest goes by such name within the diocese. Opoke also said the person in the trending photograph “does not resemble any priest” in the diocese.

He further stated that there is no priest with such name either in the diocese or from Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, and the diocese does not have any place called Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Abakakili.

The statement added “It goes without saying that the publication…is fake. It was possibly fermented by a blogger who wants to gain much traffic on their social media handles.”
