Prof. Siyan Oyeweso has congratulated the former governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, on his nomination as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy by President Bola Tinubu, AMILOADED reports.
Oyeweso in a statement on Monday expressed confidence that Oyetola, as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, possess the requisite experience and leadership skills to lead Nigeria’s pathway for economic prosperity through the maritime sector.
He described Oyetola as a man of vision and a good harvester of talents, saying his appointment by Tinubu was over the former governor’s potentials and capacity to deliver as Nigeria’s first Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
Oyeweso said, “The maritime industry is a very important, yet underexplored sector in Nigeria, despite its potentials for economic transformation and wealth creation for the Nigerian state.
“As a coastal state, Nigeria shares coastal boundaries with Cameroon, Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, and Ghana within a larger Gulf of Guinea, and maintains sovereignty over a territorial sea of 12 nautical miles, a contiguous zone of 24 nautical miles, and an Exclusive Economic Zone up to 200 nautical miles from the baselines of where the territorial sea is measured.
“Since independence, it is remarkable that this is the first time that there would be a ministry exclusively dedicated to the maritime industry.
“This speaks volumes about the commitment of Mr. President to resuscitate Nigeria’s economy from its rumbles, we well as the clarity of his vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
“As a man of vision and a good harvester of talents, I am not surprised that our President recognizes your potentials and capacity to deliver as Nigeria’s first Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
“Your good reputation as a consummate administrator, and a highly efficient manager of men and resources are self-evident and a verifiable platform for critical national assignment of this nature.
“As the Executive Governor of Osun State, your legacies in the infrastructural development of the state are evident to the blind.
“As the new Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, I am confident that you possess the requisite experience and leadership skills to engineer Nigeria’s pathway for economic prosperity through the maritime sector.
“I am grateful that God has rewarded your zealous dedication to the good people of Osun State and your unblemished legacies of good governance in the state. It is my prayer that Allah will grant you the wisdom and good health to drive the ministry into an unprecedented height.”
He further congratulated the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the chairmanship of Otunba Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, on this joyous occasion.
