The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has announced activities to mark the 2023 International Youth Day in Osun State, AMILOADED reports.
Speaking at the press conference on the event on Tuesday, the Osun NYCN Chairman, Ajala Adetunji David, said the theme of the 2023 International Youth Day for is “GREEN SKILL FOR YOUTH TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE WORLD”.
Ajala said the Council has highlighted series of programmes for the week as its custom in conjunction with the ministry of youth affairs.
He said, “In line with the theme for this year International Youth day, we are committed in taking action to Tree Planting on Thursday in public places while encouraging others! to take further action in protecting the environment and save the future. This Press briefing marks the opening of our weekly activities, it is important to stress the, impact of the youth organisations in the state and encourage many to keep on contributing to the Youth development in the state irrespective of their ideologies,
“Likewise, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Osun State chapter under the leadership of Com Ajala Adetunji is committed to sensitizing the public through Virtual discussion on the need for Green youth skills and what the youth must do in building sustainable societies.
“In the same light, considering our religious differences and the need to thank God for peaceful co-existence among the youth in the state, we will be having a Jumaat Prayer service and Church thanksgiving in the week long event. The grand finale of the 2023 international Youth day celebration will be spear head by the ministry of Youth affairs.
“As we celebrate 2023 International Youth Day, we wish to state that the National Youth council of Nigeria, Osun state have showed capacity and commitment to youth skills development in the state and has partnered and still partnering with relevant stakeholders in the development of the youth in the state.
“Thus, we want to use this medium to appreciate the youth-centric Governor, His Excellency Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke for his commitment and promises to the youth constituency in osun state.
“We are optimistic that the youth in the state will soon see a transformation in the ministry of youth affairs through the lay down programmes in the youth strategic agenda of the government of osun state.
“It is important to stress that ensuring youth have a GREEN skills for knowledge improvement, right values and attitude to support resource efficient society requires the responsibility of all a sundry, irrespective of religious or social affiliation.”
Ajala urged the federal government and the state government to take implementation of youth priorities needs seriously by actively engaging relevant stakeholders in the youth space.
He added, “In furtherance to Nation building, we encourage different youth groups to register through appropriate quarters to benefit from the intervention of government.
“We warn some element in the youth space who are spreading negative information about the youth constituency with political colouration to desist to allow peace and ensure the dividends of democracy get across to the youth.
“I want to at the juncture plead with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure holistic implementation of youth agenda and programmes he rolled out for the youth most especially at this crucial time that many of the citizens are confronted with inflation due to increase in premium motor spirit.
“We appeal to the peoples Governor, His excellency, senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke through his listening Commissioner of Youth Affairs, Hon Moshood Olagunju to speedily kick-start the Imole youth corps with sustainable implementation plan as this is believed will cushion the effect of unemployment and hunger that many youth are passing through.
“The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Osun state under my leadership is pleading with all the youth groups across different strata in the state to embrace collaboration, unity and peaceful co-existence that will promote the Green skills for a sustainable osun state. Nigeria and the world at large.”
