The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a police officer, Solomon Damak for shooting one Mr Nyommena Badapba of Tudun Wada community in Jos North Local Government Area of the state during an argument over which candidate will win the March 11 governorship poll in the state.
According to Dailytrust report, the incident occurred on Sunday when the officer argued that the All Progressives Congress would not win the election, a position that Badapba reportedly disagreed with.
Badapba was said to have insisted that APC would win the election.
It was learnt the argument provoked the armed officer to shoot Badapba on his shoulder.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos.
According to the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, the firearm of the arrested officer had been recovered and the culprit detained for disciplinary actions.
Alfred said, “The circumstance that led to the infliction of the gun injury by the recalcitrant officer does not fit into his professional calling but was done out of vindictiveness which contradicts the attributes of a Nigerian police officer.
“In order to ensure that the officer does not evade justice, the officer had been arrested, his firearm was recovered and he has since been detained for disciplinary action.”
